DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers claimed first baseman-outfielder Matt Stairs off waivers from the Texas Rangers on Friday.

Stairs played in 103 games with the Kansas City Royals and Rangers this season, batting .248 with 18 doubles, 11 home runs and 43 RBIs. Kansas City traded Stairs to Texas in July for minor league right-hander Joselo Diaz.

His career average is .265 with 218 home runs and 743 RBIs during his 14 seasons with Montreal (1992-93), Boston (1995), Oakland (1996-2000), Chicago Cubs (2001), Milwaukee (2002), Pittsburgh (2003), Kansas City (2004-06), and Texas (2006).
