Achorn goal powers Minutemen by Devils

CORINTH – Felicia Achorn scored the second of her two goals with 8:20 left in the second half to lift Stearns of Millinocket to a 3-2 high school field hockey win over Central on Wednesday.

Katie Mills added a goal and Amy Collinsworth and Mikaela Rosebush assists for the 8-0 Minutemen. Deanna Michaud made 19 saves on 25 shots.

Rachel Trafton scored both goals for the 5-2-2 Red Devils with Maggie Davis and Beth Dauphinee getting assists. Sami Morin stopped 14 of 19 shots.

JV: Stearns 3-1

Boys soccer

Lee Academy 5, Penquis 0

At Lee, Tom Bird pumped in two second-half goals for the undefeated Pandas.

Young Huan Jang, Corey Coulombe, and Devan Parker each netted a goal while Peter Pickering, Brodi Rideout, and Tyler Kuester each grabbed an assist. Devan Parker and Jake Kuester made eight saves on 13 shots for 5-0-1 Lee.

Brian Zwicker made 19 saves on 26 shots for the 0-6 Patriots of Milo.

MCI 1, Rockland 0

At Rockland, Brandon Glencross scored the game-winning goal off a pass from Dustin Varney with 24 minutes left in the game as the Huskies shut out the Tigers.

Alex Sidelinger made four saves on 10 shots for Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Garrett Worster made eight saves on 20 shots for Rockland.

Central 3, Piscataquis 2

At Corinth, Scott Kelly’s goal with 1:25 left in regulation lifted Central over Piscataquis of Guilford.

Jacob Speed and Patrick Byers added a goal apiece for the 3-2-2 Red Devils. Charles Haney had 16 saves on 21 shots.

Mike Wharff scored both goals for the 5-2-1 Pirates. Ryan Martell saved 15 out of 20 shots.

JV: Central 2-1

Penobscot Valley 4, Schenck 0

At East Millinocket, Ryan Ware scored two goals and grabbed two assists to propel the Howlers of Howland.

Brandon Vainie and Chad Trapier each added a goal for 2-3-2 Penobscot Valley. Brian Harris made 11 saves on 14 shots.

Lanny Thompson made 16 saves on 25 shots for the 2-4 Wolverines.

Bangor 7, Skowhegan 0

At Bangor, Matt Goodell scored two goals and recorded two assists to pace Bangor by Skowhegan.

JoJo Hwalek, Mack Susi, Tony Martinez, Nick George, and Devin Lincoln each added a goal for Bangor. Zane Gray and Susi each had an assist. Eric Milles and Aaron Taft combined to make four saves on five shots for the 6-1 Rams.

Allan Davis made seven saves on 31 shots for the 0-7 Indians.

Washington Acad. 4, Machias 0

At East Machias, Milos Gautier, Young Gi, Min Kim, and Steve Knowles each netted a goal to power the Raiders.

Josiah Jackson stopped seven of eight shots for 5-1 Washington Academy.

Mike Jenkins made 14 saves on 32 shots for the 2-4 Bulldogs.

Shead 4, Narraguagus 0

At Eastport, Aaron Sullivan scored twice to lead Shead past the Knights of Harrington.

Michael Cummings and Caleb Ricker each added a goal while Chris Newman had two assists. Craig Hastings stopped six of seven shots for the 4-3 Tigers.

Kyle Tenan made eight saves on 13 shots for 0-5-1 Narraguagus.

Girls soccer

John Bapst 4, MDI 0

At Bangor, Whitney Saucier knocked in three goals to lead John Bapst past Mount Desert Island.

Kristina Hambrock added a goal while Erin Kelm, Torri Gibson, Ginny Carter, and Caroline Cassling had assists for the 3-2-1 Crusaders. Cassling had 11 saves on 18 shots.

Bridgette Pratt stopped 14 of 21 shots for 1-6 MDI.

JV: John Bapst 2-0

Bangor 4, Skowhegan 1

At Skowhegan, Amy Hackett, Casey Hartley, Erin MacDermott, and Kate Dana each scored a goal to lead Bangor.

Courtney Stevenson tallied two assists while Eliza Estabrook had one for Bangor. Tawnya Godinez made three saves on six shots for the 7-0 Rams.

Kristi Poland netted the goal for Skowhegan while Crystal Johnson made 17 saves on 31 shots for the 0-6-1 Indians.

JV: Bangor 6-0
