These are the places we drive by every day. Most of us don’t even realize how lucky we are to be able to see where Ellie saw ‘skinny Santa’ in ‘Pet Sematary,’ while others around the world have to imagine these places. This tour is guaranteed to entertain.”

The course will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 27-Nov. 15, at the church on Holyoke and Main streets.
The objective is to create an open, inclusive environment that appeals to people wondering about the Episcopal Church or St. Patrick’s, as well as existing congregation members.
The course will include video, written materials, small group discussion and large group forum to help participants encounter the basic principles of Christianity through the Anglican approach of Scripture, tradition and reason.

Author talk, signing

Klose has attracted fans from all walks of life, from physicians to farmers to teachers, and his unique insights on life are seasoned with gentle, often laugh-out-loud humor. The cream of Klose’s columns, now gathered in a book, has been culled from the more than 250 pieces written for the Monitor. “Small Worlds” features Klose’s graceful prose and engaging voice in brief essays with subjects ranging from the joys of small-town hardware stores and Converse sneakers to the challenges of learning a foreign language or traveling abroad. Stetson
Historical society grant
The Stetson Historical Society has received a grant of $3,990 to better preserve its historical collections by repairing and renovating its museum building. The Maine Historical Records advisory board provided the grant with funds from the National Historical Publications and Records committee.
The Stetson Historical Society acquired a building through a donation by the Leighton Trust in 2005. The building will be used to house historical town documents and items that preserve the history of Stetson and the surrounding area, as well as a meeting place for the community to study and present information regarding the history of the town.
A recent report to the Maine Legislature demonstrates that many of Maine’s historical collections – photographs, paintings, natural history collections, letters, etc. – are in danger of being lost to mold, fire, theft or misuse. Recent surveys show that Maine people in local government, historical societies and libraries, are seeking help to preserve that heritage.
The Stetson Historical Society was able to procure the grant by demonstrating the need to preserve historical papers and matching the grant money with donated time and services. Volunteers have donated hundreds of hours cleaning, painting and repairing the museum building, as well as donating professional services such as carpentry, construction work and electrical work.
For information about the Historical Collections Facilities Grant Program, call Peggy Shiels at the Cultural Resources Information Center at 287-7591 or e-mail maine.cric
@maine.gov or visit www.maine.gov/sos/arc/mhrab/grant.html.
