BANGOR – Doug Damon, president of the Bangor Breakfast Kiwanis Club presented a check for $1,000 to organizers of “Summer in the City: The Campaign for Dakin Pool” at the Kiwanis Club meeting Aug. 31 in Bangor.

In presenting the donation to Friends of Dakin Pool President Mike Robinson, Damon said, “Kiwanis is about kids. On behalf of the Bangor Breakfast Kiwanis Club, we are delighted to support this campaign to benefit so many Bangor youth.”

According to Robinson, campaign organizers are grateful for the $1,000 contribution from the Kiwanis Club, which comes as the campaign is entering its final stages.

“The support of the Bangor Breakfast Kiwanis Club is outstanding and demonstrates their commitment to the children in our community,” Robinson said. “I hope other civic and social clubs in the Greater Bangor area will follow the lead of Kiwanis and support the campaign.”

The $100,000 capital campaign for Bangor’s first public swimming pool, launched June 21, has received $46,607 in gifts and pledges. Funds raised will be used to enhance and improve the area around the pool, including the construction of a new pool house and an expanded play and picnic area. The Dakin Park Swimming Pool is located on Bangor’s east side at the end of Pine Street just past Stillwater Avenue, across from Broadway Park.

The campaign is scheduled to conclude in October. The Friends of Dakin Pool is a nonprofit organization run by community volunteers. Its mission is to raise funds to enhance and improve the Dakin Pool complex.
