SAD 3 bus, pickup collide in Troy; 1 hurt

TROY – A collision between a pickup truck and an SAD 3 bus left the driver of the pickup injured, but the 10 children passengers in the bus were not hurt.

The Waldo County Sheriff’s Department responded to the collision at about 3:50 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of U.S. Route 202-Route 9 and Myrick Road.

According to the department’s report, the bus driver, Roger Wingate, 80, of Thorndike, was traveling north on Myrick Road. Wingate stopped at the stop sign at the intersection, then continued across Route 202/9.

Jacqueline Tapley, 72, of Hermon, driving a 1998 Dodge pickup west on Route 202/9, told officers she assumed the bus driver was allowing her to proceed ahead of the bus.

The collision caused $9,000 in damage to the 1994 Harvester bus.

Tapley is believed to have suffered a broken foot in the collision.
