WASHINGTON – Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins announced Thursday that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor several grants totaling $2,694,107.

“The importance of ongoing medical research cannot be overstated,” the senators said. “This DHHS funding will help facilitate important medical research at Jackson Laboratory that will undoubtedly change lives.”

The total included five individual grants that would do research for mothers and children, fund the research infrastructure, fund human genome research, fund clinical research related to neurological disorders, and fund heart and vascular diseases research.
