BANGOR – A Penobscot County investigator on Thursday renewed a request for the public’s help in finding a suspect in the Sept. 11 armed robbery of an Enfield couple and said that a woman accompanying the suspect has not been heard from by her family since shortly after the robbery.

Before the public plea for assistance Thursday morning, an arrest warrant was issued for David Joseph Michaud, 26, who investigators said forced his way into the Enfield home with two others and robbed the two people inside.

Michaud allegedly wielded a baseball bat with spikes in it, striking both the woman and man inside the home.

Already wanted on felony warrants on unrelated incidents, Michaud will face charges of robbery and two counts of assault, Detective Bill Flagg of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said.

Scott Lord, 41, of Enfield and Daniel McComb, 22, have both been charged with robbery and remain at the Penobscot County Jail unable to make bail of $20,000 cash or $100,000 surety.

Since the robbery, Michaud has shaved his head and beard and looks different from the most recent jail photograph investigators had.

In addition, Flagg told reporters that Megan Verrill, 22, of Holden, who has had a past relationship with Michaud, was believed to be with him. Her family members, used to daily contact with her, haven’t heard from her since shortly after the robbery, the detective said.

Flagg said Verrill is not a suspect in the robbery and there is no information to suggest she was being held against her will. He noted, however, that the family and authorities are concerned, especially in light of the violence in the robbery.

“At this point, we don’t know exactly what her status is,” Flagg said.

Investigators and family members don’t know where she is or how she is doing.

“The concern for safety is strictly because we don’t have those answers,” Flagg said after the press conference.

Detectives from the sheriff’s department and the Maine State Police are following up on leads, including reports both locally and out of state, of possible sightings of Michaud.

Investigators impounded Verrill’s SUV that had been involved in the robbery, and on Thursday it was being examined at the Maine State Crime Lab. Flagg said he would be headed to the crime lab today to work with investigators.

Detective John Trask of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office has been in regular contact with Verrill’s family. Flagg said family members were told Wednesday night about the decision to go public with the information.

Flagg said that although the woman has been out of touch with family members since shortly after the robbery, investigators determined that Thursday was the best time to release her name and picture and not before.

Despite an extensive search for Michaud, the man has managed to elude capture, and Flagg reiterated Thursday that investigators suspect he has had help.

Flagg warned that helping Michaud evade police is a criminal act.

“Anybody that is found to be assisting Mr. Michaud in avoiding apprehension is subject to criminal charges, and we will pursue those criminal charges,” he said.

Anyone with information may contact the detectives at (800) 432-7911.
