Husson men collect two victories

The Husson College men’s soccer team improved to 6-1-1 with a 1-0 victory over Elms on Sunday and a 3-0 shutout of Becker on Saturday.

At Chicopee, Mass., Sunday, Nattapong Konsuriya scored in the 61st minute as the Eagles held off the Blazers.

Jon Cowie stopped seven of 17 shots for 6-1-1 Husson, while Nick Pellegrini made 13 saves on 25 shots for 2-4 Elms.

At Leicester, Mass., Saturday, Hiroki Ueda scored twice as the Eagles shut down the Hawks.

Nathan Carter chipped in with a goal for Husson and Kongsuriya added an assist. Dana Bellemare and Bradley Ala combined to stop two of six shots.

Chris Kirwan made nine saves on 12 shots for 0-7-1 Becker.

UM-Fort Kent 5, UMPI 0

At Presque Isle Saturday, the Bengals scored four goals in the second half to ruin the Owls’ Homecoming game.

Noe Aparicio led 3-1 UMaine-Fort Kent with two goals and an assist. Dwayne Smith finished with two assists. Andy Martin, Jules Bodo and Justin Dunlea each added a goal, and Derrick Plourde stopped five of eight shots.

Scott Clenchy made 11 saves on 22 shots for 3-4 UM-Presque Isle.

UMFK 7, Vermont Tech. 0

At Fort Kent Sunday, Arnold Lewis racked up three goals as the Bengals rolled to the win.

Jules Bodo, Dwayne Smith, Josh Nichols and Miguel Gomez each added a goal for Fort Kent. Derrick Plourde made one save on three shots for the 4-1 Bengals.

Tim Quinn stopped 16 of 22 shots for Vermont Technical College.

Unity 9, NMCC 1

At Presque Isle Sunday, Ryan Howes racked up four goals as Unity rolled over Northern Maine Community College.

Matt Belonick tallied two goals while Ben Gillis, Brian Clark and Matt Pickowicz each added a goal. Tyler Ferguson made one save on two shots for the 6-1 Rams.

Kyle Sanborn netted a goal while Corey Haynes made 12 saves on 21 shots for 0-5 NMCC.

Binghamton 2, Maine 1

At Orono Saturday, Adam Chavez scored a second-half goal provided insurance as the Bearcats edged the Black Bears.

Bryan Arnault also scored for 3-5-3 Binghamton. Jason Stenta stopped two of six shots.

Cooper Friend scored for 0-9 Maine with 18 seconds left off a pass from Kenny Caceros. Giacomo Brunino stopped nine of 21 shots.

Castleton State 2, Thomas 0

At Castleton, Vt., Sunday, Jesse Brown nailed a penalty kick in the 48th minute as the Spartans topped the Terriers.

Gerrit Marino added a goal for 4-5 Castleton State and Mike Anthony recorded four saves on nine shots.

Dustin Greene faced 47 shots for the 0-6 Terriers.

Johnson State 8, Thomas 0

At Johnson, Vt., Saturday, Mike Grieco and Sean Zettervall each scored two goals and four others added one goal apiece as the Badgers rolled.

Lee Fortin stopped two of four shots for 2-4 Johnson State.

Russell Beckwith and Dustin Green combined for 14 saves on 39 shots for the 0-6 Terriers of Waterville.

Keene State 2, Southern Maine 1

At Keene, N.H., Saturday, Eric Scott scored in the 72nd minute broke a tie and lifted the Owls past the Huskies of Gorham.

Ralph Rocco gave 7-1 Keene State a lead in the first half but Greg Cox tied it for 4-5 USM in the second half.

Keene State’s Cal Mintz made five saves and USM’s Chris Willard had 14.

UMF 4, Castleton State 1

At Castleton, Vt., Saturday, Alec Brown netted two goals and Jeff Tatarczuk had a goal and an assist to lead the Beavers.

Brian London added a goal for 2-3 UMaine-Farmington. Brian Lemont and Ben Foster combined for six saves on 13 shots.

Tyler Butterick scored for the 3-5 Spartans and Mike Anthony stopped three of 15 shots.

Colby 1, Trinity 0

At Hartford, Conn., Saturday, James Westhafer’s header in the 89th minute propelled the White Mules of Waterville to the win.

Josh Kahane made six saves on 14 shots for 1-1-2 Colby. Eric Wench stopped six of 10 shots for 0-5 Trinity.

Unity 4, Hesser 1

At Unity Saturday, Matt Pickowicz netted two goals in the second half to lead Unity past Hesser.

Matt Belonick and Mario Mandarino each added a goal for the 5-1 Rams. Tyler Ferguson stopped four of five shots.

Carmine Masiello scored for 2-4-1 Hesser while Mike Woods made 11 saves on 15 shots.

Becker 1, Maine Maritime 0

At Leicester, Mass., Sunday, Diroilino DeBrito’s goal off an assist from Tyler Roser in the 64th minute powered the Hawks past the Mariners.

Josh Heath made eight saves on 14 shots for 0-7-1 MMA of Castine. Chris Kirwan stopped six of seven shots for 1-7-1 Becker.

Elms 3, Maine Maritime 1

At Chicopee, Mass., Saturday, Matt Kapinos scored two first-half goals to power the Blazers.

Nda Naslong contributed a goal for 2-3 Elms. Nick Pellegrini and Chris Lucas combined for two saves.

Josh Heath had seven saves for the 0-6-1 Mariners of Castine.

MMA splits weekend games

Maine Maritime Academy bounced back for a 4-0 victory over Becker on Sunday after suffering a 6-1 loss to Elms on Saturday.

At Leicester, Mass., Sunday, Kristin Gabor had a goal and two assists while Jessie Taylor registered a goal and an assist to lift the Mariners of Castine.

Sarah Kaplan and Diana Manatt-Rogers each chipped in with a goal for 2-3-1 MMA. Jessica Hewitt stopped nine of 17 shots.

Ashley Piasecki made seven saves on 13 shots for 2-7 Becker.

At Chicopee, Mass., Saturday, Krystyna Gagne netted a pair of goals and grabbed an assist to lead Elms past the Mariners.

Shannon Donnelly recorded five saves for the 4-3 Blazers.

Kristen Gaylord scored for 1-3-1 MMA in the second half. Hillary Arris and Hewitt combined on six saves.

Maine 1, Sacred Heart 0 (2OT)

At Fairfield, Conn., Sunday, Veronique Fleury’s shot into the upper left corner of the net in the second overtime boosted the undefeated Black Bears to the win.

Jasmine Phillips made four saves on 11 shots for 8-0-1 Maine, which has won seven straight games and has four straight shutouts.

Ashley Mocarski made six saves on 16 shots for the 1-9-0 Pioneers.

Husson 4, Becker 0

At Worcester, Mass., Saturday Kaylin Caron, Shelby Pickering, Elissa Gordon and Tatyana Wolterbeek each netted first-half goal to power the Eagles of Bangor.

Leah Drew stopped both shots she faced for 4-2-1 Husson.

Julie Arroyo and Ashley Piasecki combined for 12 saves on 24 shots for the 2-6-1 Hawks.

Colby 1, Trinity 0

At Hartford, Conn., Saturday, Libba Cox’s goal in the first half helped Colby capture a victory.

Liza Benson made five saves on 10 shots for the 3-0-2 White Mules of Waterville.

Tara Finucane recorded five saves on six shots for the 1-5 Bantams.

Coast Guard 1, Saint Joseph’s 0

At New London, Conn., Saturday, Katie Kurek’s goal 4:34 into the first overtime lifted the Coast Guard.

Trish Ohle made two saves on five shots for 4-4 Coast Guard.

Monica Cuda made five saves on nine shots for the 3-3 Monks of Standish.

UMF 2, Castleton State 1 (OT)

At Castleton, Vt., Saturday, Melissa St. Amand scored off an Ashley Tetrault cross with four seconds left in overtime to lift the Beavers past the Spartans.

Tracy Stale scored in the second half to give 4-3-1 Castleton State the lead, but Jackie Mrazik tied it up for UM-Farmington 29 seconds later.

UMF’s Alix Raymond made four saves on 11 shots. Kim Allen stopped seven of 14 shots for the Spartans.

Keene State 3, Southern Maine 0

At Gorham Saturday, Tara Wagner, Molly Brunelle and Kendra Spencer each netted a goal as the 5-4 Owls beat the Huskies.

Keene State’s Liz Rosen made two saves on six shots.

Alison Bradley made seven saves on 16 shots for 1-6 USM.

Johnson State 3, Thomas 0

At Johnson, Vt. Saturday, Johnson State’s Vanessa Ralston scored twice to seal the win.

Francesca Delle-Femine and Shelly Szkutak combined to make three saves on 11 shots for 5-4 Johnson State.

Shannon Procter made 15 saves on 26 shots for the 2-3 Terriers of Waterville.

Castleton State 2, Thomas 0

At Castleton, Vt. Sunday, Tracy Stala and Casey FitzGerald each scored a goal as Castleton State downed Thomas.

Sarah Reaber-Spina tallied an assist for the 5-3-1 Spartans. Goalie Kim Allen stopped six of seven shots for her second shut-out of the season.

Shannon Proctor made eight saves on 28 shots for the 2-4 Terriers of Waterville.

Elms 1, Husson 0

At Chicopee, Mass., Sunday, Jen LeDoux’s goal in the 80th minute helped the Blazers shut down the Eagles of Bangor.

Shannon Donnelly stopped six shots for 5-3 Elms, while Leah Drew made two saves for 4-3 Husson.

UMFK wins two

Jodyann Blake scored four goals in two games and goalie Heather Hartman recorded two shutouts as UMaine-Fort Kent downed UMaine-Presque Isle 4-0 Saturday and Vermont Tech 6-0 Sunday.

In Saturday’s game at Presque Isle, Blake netted two goals, and Lindsay Cyr and Jeanne Frazer added a goal apiece to improve to 7-0. Sarah Pinette and Stephanie Schofield each notched an assist and Hartman tallied eight saves on 12 shots.

Billie Martin recorded 16 saves on 22 shots for UMaine-Presque Isle.

In Sunday’s game at Randolph, Vt., Liz Cladette scored three goals and Nicole Nowakowski had a goal and an assist for 8-0 UMFK.

Blake scored two goals and Maria Williams and Sarah Pinette had two assists apiece. Hartman made one save on two shots.

Chelsea Carpenter save 15 of 23 shots for Vermont Tech.
