BOSTON – Freshman Farrell McClernon’s scored her second consecutive game-winner, with 18:37 remaining in regulation Thursday, to give 10th-ranked Boston University a 1-0 women’s soccer victory over No. 22 Maine, snapping Maine’s seven-game winning streak.
BU is 9-2-1 overall, 2-0 in America East, while Maine fell to 8-1-1 and 0-1, respectively.
McClernon took a cross from Lauren Erwin, beat a defender and nestled the ball in the right corner of the net past Maine goalie Jasmine Phillips, who had her scoreless streak snapped at 451 minutes, 37 seconds.
Stephanie Dreyer made a save on Maine’s only shot while Phillips finished with two saves on nine shots.
BU extended its unbeaten streak at Nickerson Field to 17 games.
Colby 6, U-New England 0
At Waterville, Laura Williamson scored twice to help push Colby College past the University of New England of Biddeford.
Libba Cox and Whitney Lynn both had a goal and an assist for the 4-0-2 Mules. Meaghan Edwards and Lexi Bohonnon each added a goal. Katie McCabe and Meg Cordner had two assists a piece. Liza Benson and Rachel Freierman combined to make no saves on two shots.
Leigh Engel stopped 14 of 37 shots for the 2-5 Nor’easters.
Men’s soccer
Unity 2, EMCC 1
At Bangor, Matt Belonick scored the winning goal on a penalty kick 44 minutes into the second half to lead Unity College past Eastern Maine Community College.
Matt Pickowicz scored a second-half goal for Unity and Tyler Ferguson stopped two of three shots.
Ricky Trombley scored a penalty kick goal 29 minutes in to the first half for the Golden Eagles. Matt Quimby made eight saves on 20 shots.
Rivier 1, Saint Joseph’s 0
At Standish, Gustavo Marques scored at 71:19 in the second half to lift Rivier College past Saint Joseph’s.
Victor Joubert had five saves on 15 shots for 3-2-1 Rivier.
Greg Cavanaugh stopped three out of 11 shots for the 4-4- Monks.
