Art tour, wine tasting, auction to aid library

Planned to coincide with the height of the fall leaf-peeping season, director Lynn Allen has announced that the Vose Library First Annual Union Art Tour, Wine Tasting and Silent Art Auction is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, in Union.

A light soup lunch for attendees will be available, for a fee, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. during the tour at Vose Library on Union Common.

Allen reports that Union-area artists’ studios and local, private and commercial vineyards are featured on the self-guided tour, which ends at 4 p.m., just in time for guests to make their way to the Silent Art Auction, which will be 3 to 5 p.m. at the Old Town House in Union.

While you are viewing the items in the Silent Art Auction, you will enjoy live music and wine tasting, featuring wines from three Maine wineries.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Vose Library Building Fund.

Presently located in the Robbins House on Union Common, Vose Library rents space from the Union Historical Society, Allen explained of supporters’ effort to give the library “a home of its own on property purchased during the first phase of its Capital Campaign.”

The Art Tour, Wine Tasting and Silent Auction kicks off the next phase of the capital campaign.

Advance tickets for the daylong event are $20, and tickets the day of the event are $22. The admission price for Union residents, however, is just $15.

Tickets, including a map describing the artists and vineyards, can be obtained at Harbor Audio Video, and Lily, Lupine and Fern in Camden; The Reading Corner in Rockland; Waltz Pharmacy and McKean and Charles Wine Merchants in Waldoboro; and at The Cricket and the Vose Library in Union.

Your tour ticket includes entrance to the Wine Tasting and Silent Art Auction.

For more information about the tour or to purchase tickets, call the library at 785-4733.

Allen and all those associated with the capital campaign certainly hope for your support and “a good turnout” as they approach what Allen describes as “an important juncture of our capital campaign, moving into fundraising for building construction.”
