Remember that song, “The Things We Do for Love”? – “Walking in the rain and the snow, when there’s nowhere to go, and you’re feeling like a part of you is dying.” Rain? Snow? Nowhere to go? Who cares?

I say, if you really want to feel like a part of you is dying, get a bikini wax. Then you’d be singing a different tune. One called: “The Things We Do for Beauty.”

Of course, there’s a better way, but I wouldn’t have known if one of my best friends hadn’t told me. You use powder – that way, the hair will go, and the skin will stay. These are the types of beauty secrets you share with your best girlfriends, but why not tell the world?

Dear readers, now’s your chance. In the inaugural ShopGirl beauty poll, you can tell all of eastern Maine – and beyond – what’s tops for moisturizer, lipstick, nail polish and hair care products. One lucky respondent will win a box full of this fall’s top beauty products – from all the top names. The poll will include a category for advice that defies categorization, like the tip a friend shared one day: To keep her body from “getting used to” deodorant (then it doesn’t work), she bought seven varieties and uses a different one each day.
