DEXTER – An Exeter man who went to Ripley on Sunday night allegedly to kill his girlfriend was nabbed after he stopped in her driveway.
Leon Maloon Jr., 49, had a loaded .22-caliber rifle inside his vehicle when Dexter police Officer Jon Brown and Somerset County sheriff’s Deputy Mike Ross arrested him.
Maloon was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, having a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle, operating while under the influence of intoxicants, operating after suspension, failure to stop for a police officer, improper plates, and refusing to submit to arrest.
His initial court appearance is set for Nov. 9 in Penobscot County Superior Court in Bangor.
Brown said his office received a tip at 8:30 p.m. Sunday that Maloon was headed to Ripley allegedly to shoot his girlfriend.
Provided with a description of Maloon’s vehicle and his license plate number, Brown said he waited on Route 23 in his cruiser for Maloon’s vehicle to pass.
When it did, Brown said he activated his blue lights and siren, but Maloon failed to stop until he arrived at the woman’s house on Ellms Road in Ripley.
Brown and Ross, who was called to assist, arrested Maloon.
