2 men arrested entering U.S. on separate charges

BANGOR – Two men are being held at the Penobscot County Jail after their arrests last week as they entered the United States.

Blake D. Hampe, 29, of Manchester, N.H., was arrested last Wednesday in Bar Harbor shortly after he arrived from Canada on the Cat ferry for having child pornography on his laptop computer.

U.S. Custom and Border Protection officers searched Hampe’s car after he allegedly said he did not have to answer their questions because he was a U.S. citizen. Agents found a small amount of marijuana and Hampe’s laptop along with stuffed animals, Legos, condoms and a Fantastic Four children’s sleeping bag in the car, according to court documents.

On Hampe’s computer, agents allegedly found a video that showed two prepubescent boys engaged in sexual activity.

Hampe is charged with transporting child pornography and possessing child pornography. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

A detention hearing is scheduled for Wednesday before U.S. District Judge John Woodcock in federal court in Bangor to determine if he should be released on bail.

Robert Gary Floyd, 29, of New Brunswick was arrested Friday at a Calais border crossing. He is wanted in Canada for assaulting a police officer, according to court documents.

Floyd, whose town of residence is unknown, was arrested after he crossed the Ferry Point Bridge in Calais. He has an extensive criminal record in Canada and was deported from the U.S. in January 2003, according to court documents.

He is charged with attempted illegal re-entry after deportation. If convicted, Floyd faces up to two years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Floyd is being held without bail pending the outcome of his case.
