UNITY – Ryan Howes, Matt Belonick, and Matt Pickowicz each scored a goal to lead Unity College by the University of Maine-Machias 3-1 in men’s soccer action Tuesday.
Howes also recorded an assist on the goal by Belonick. Tyler Ferguson made seven saves on 17 shots for the 8-1 Rams.
Pat Corliss scored UM-Machias’ only goal while Kellen Shaver made six saves on 14 shots for the 6-2-1 Clippers.
Bates 4, Southern Maine 0
At Lewiston, Duane Pelz scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead Bates over Southern Maine.
Brent Morin notched a goal and an assist for the 5-3 Bobcats. Benjamin Lajoie and Andrew Wyman each chipped in a goal, and Rob Munro made one save on five shots.
Chris Willard recorded two saves on 31 shots for the 5-7 Huskies of Gorham.
Women’s soccer
UM-Augusta 3, UM-Machias 2
At Augusta, Sasha Bender scored her second goal of the game 18 minutes into the second half to give the Moose the winning margin.
Bender and Julie Russell scored first-half goals for UMaine-Augusta. Sally Taylor made nine saves on 14 shots.
Christy Moon scored one goal and assisted on another for UMaine-Machias. Molly Kurz tallied the other goal and Alyssa LaRochelle added an assist. Alicia Schmidt made 14 saves on 16 shots.
Field hockey
USM 2, Fitchburg State 1 (3OT)
At Fitchburg, Mass., Allie Hill made 14 saves on 21 shots, including all four shots in the penalty stroke shootout, to lead Southern Maine to the victory.
Leah Scrutchfield and Megan Stanley each converted a goal in the shootout to seal the victory. USM went ahead early in the game after Nicole Bombardi netted an unassisted goal for the Huskies in the 26th minute.
