AUGUSTA – Dan McGillvray, a staff reporter for the Kennebec Journal in Augusta, died Monday, nearly a year after he was diagnosed with cancer. He was 55.

McGillvray, who lived in Vienna, Maine, died at his brother’s home in Quincy, Mass. He had been treated at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Massachusetts since he was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor last November.

McGillvray covered city government and the local school board since joining the Kennebec Journal staff in 2000. He previously covered energy and regulatory issues and wrote features as a correspondent for the newspaper. McGillvray also had worked as an editor and reporter for the American Journal in Westbrook, and for the Evening Express in Portland.

No public funeral services are planned.
