INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle signed a multiyear contract extension Thursday and added a new title as executive vice president of basketball operations.

The new position puts the former University of Maine standout directly below CEO Donnie Walsh and president Larry Bird and gives him more clout in disciplinary matters. Terms were not disclosed.

Carlisle has a 146-100 record with the Pacers.
