One goal is enough for Riots

ORONO – Chris McConnon scored off a Mark Cloutier assist early in the second half to lift the Orono boys soccer team to a 1-0 high school win over Dexter on Thursday.

Nate Peterson turned away six of seven shots for the 10-1 Red Riots.

Chris Eastman made 10 saves on 11 shots for 8-2-1 Dexter.

JV: Dexter 3-2

Calvary Chapel 9, East Grand 1

At Danforth, Luke Thomas scored four goals and Alex Merrill added a couple as Calvary Chapel of Orrington improved to 10-1.

Rosaire Veilleux had a goal and an assist with Jon Burke and Josh Monroe adding a goal apiece. Tim Arbo made seven saves.

Tyler Langill scored for 1-8 East Grand and Ricky Parks and Abe Brittain combined for 30 saves.

So. Aroostook 2, Lee Academy 1

At Lee, Josh Branscombe ran on to a loose ball that glanced off a Lee defender’s head and converted on a breakaway with 52 seconds left as Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook triumphed.

Branscombe scored in the first half off a Mike Casey pass, but Brandon Crocker equalized off a Corey Coulombe pass.

Colby Clark made 17 saves on 26 shots for the 7-5 Warriors, and Jon Connick made four stops on eight shots for 6-4-2 Lee.

Old Town 0, Waterville 0 (2OT)

At Old Town, Sam Petrie stopped 15 of 18 shots to help lead 5-5-2 Old Town past Waterville.

Josh Sirous had eight saves on 11 shots for the 5-5-2 Panthers.

JV: Old Town 3-1

Penobscot Valley 4, Sumner 0

At Howland, Ryan Ware scored a goal and assisted another to lead Penobscot Valley to victory.

Brandon Vainio, Brian Harris, and Ethan Babineau scored for the 7-2-3 Howlers. Joey Brown provided an assist as Harris blocked all four shots.

Andrew Bennett made 14 saves on 29 shots for 1-10 Sumner of East Sullivan.

Schenck 1, Katahdin 1 (2OT)

At East Millinocket, Kerry Thompson scored on a Joe Rutti assist 29 minutes into the second half to help force overtime for Schenck.

Lanny Thompson stopped 13 of 19 shots for the 3-7-1 Wolverines.

Marshall Davis scored an unassisted goal 30 minutes into the first half for 7-3-1 Katahdin of Stacyville. Jared Anderson made 19 saves on 26 shots.

Highview Chr. 4, Islesboro 2

At Charleston, Jonas Kramer had three goals and Jonathan Reed added another as Highview Christian earned the win.

Thibaut Pogorzelski had two assists for the 5-2 Knights and Scott Wilhite and Kramer combined for six saves on 15 shots.

Colin Schmidt scored two goals for 1-10 Islesboro and Mike Pisciotta saved 17 of 32 shots.

John Bapst 2, MDI 1

At Bangor, Nick Hubbard scored off a John Gagnon corner kick with 8:29 left in regulation to lift John Bapst past Mount Desert Island.

Hubbard scored to tie the game with 26 minutes left, heading in a pass from Ian Bamford for the 9-2 Crusaders. Chris Smith and Jeff Sanford had 10 saves on 12 shots.

Tarek Dekkaki scored in the first half for the 7-4 Trojans and John Joseph stopped seven of 28 shots.

Central 5, Penquis 0

At Corinth, Danny Kane scored a goal and chipped in with two assists to propel the Red Devils past the Patriots.

Joe Faggiole, Scott Kelley, Tyler Speed and Patrick Byers each added a goal for 5-3-4 Central. Jake Speed had an assist. Charles Haney and Jon Daniel combined to save all seven Penquis shots.

Brian Zwicker and Richie Russell combined for 29 saves on 35 shots for the 0-12 Patriots.

Ellsworth 3, Hermon 1

At Hermon, Zach Ameigh, Dem Katsiaficas and Jesse Abbott netted a goal apiece, all unassisted, as Ellsworth knocked off Hermon.

Greg Berry saved four out of seven shots for the 10-1 Eagles.

Kevin Tarr scored for the 1-10-1 Hawks and Tim Kennerson assisted on it. Josh Blaine had seven saves on 15 shots.

Field hockey

Foxcroft 3, Hermon 2 (OT)

At Hermon, Kelsey Boss scored the second of her two unassisted goals in overtime as Foxcroft Academy prevailed.

Kayla Clukey added a goal and Amy Molinaro an assist for the 7-4-1 Ponies. Renee Maheu stopped six out of eight shots.

Lillian Berry scored twice for 2-8-2 Hermon and Carrie Cole saved 14 of 17 shots.

JV: Foxcroft 3-0

Old Town 7, Brewer 2

At Old Town, Cally Randall had a hat trick with three goals to lead Old Town past Brewer,

Lindsay St. Louis scored two goals and assisted another for the 2-7-1 Coyotes. Sarah Wilcox had a goal and three assists and Alexa Nickerson added a goal. Heather Nye stopped 16 of 18 shots.

Morghan Cormier and Brittany Albert scored for the 0-10-3 Witches. Emily Fraser and Meagan Seymour provided assists. Angela Patterson and Melissa Dunn combined to block 21 of 28 shots.

JV: Brewer 1-0

Camden Hills 4, Mount View 1

At Rockport, Megan Bauer and Kate Fetterman both had a goal and an assist to push Camden Hills past Mount View of Thorndike.

Erika Blauth and Allie Chilton added goals for the 9-4 Windjammers. Dale Winsper stopped six of seven shots.

Mollie Arute scored a second-half goal for the 6-6 Mustangs. Lyndsey Cronin made 19 saves on 23 shots.

JV: Mount View 1-0

Girls soccer

Central 1, Penquis 0

At Milo, Randi McHugh directed in a Nicole Lamarche pass early in the first half as Central collected its second win over Penquis.

Jessica Daniel made 13 saves for the 2-10 winners while Erica Lyford made 12 stops for 0-11 Penquis.
