Democrat

Sean Faircloth

Age: 46

Address: 299 Pine St, Bangor, ME 04402

E-mail: sfaircloth@gwi.net

Web site: Web site not provided

Family: Brendan, 15; Ryan, 12; Declan, 1

Education: University of Notre Dame, cum laude; foreign study, Maynooth College, Ireland; University of California, Hastings Law School

Occupation: Lawyer; associate professor, Justice Studies, University College, Bangor

Experience: Director, conceived of and led to creation of Maine Discovery Museum, managing exhibits, fundraising, administration; spearheaded deadbeat dad child support law, saving $150 million; R&D tax credit

Top three priorities if elected:

? Cut taxes: I want taxes cut for typical Mainers, specifically property and income taxes, requiring fairer taxes from nonresidents and on frill items. Let’s cut taxes to encourage R&D and innovation.

? Advocate for children: I was honored by awards from pediatricians and advocates for people with disabilities, but with almost 20 percent of children in poverty, we must do more.

? More jobs: I’ll fight for public higher education as a centerpiece of spin-off jobs for Bangor. We must increase graduate research and seek partners like Jackson Lab. Invest in education bonds.

Experience: New Hampshire Department of Public Health; residential program for emotionally disturbed boys; North Carolina Department of Human Resources; several community mental health centers and several churches; self-employed past seven years

Top three priorities if elected:

? Reform health insurance regulations to drastically reduce premiums for average people. Bring Maine back into the mainstream, rather than being one of only five states saddled with “guaranteed issue.”

? Reform MaineCare so that it is not growing at twice the national average by increasing residency requirements and bringing benefits in line with private plans.

? Reduce taxes, especially the income tax and vehicle excise tax. Both are higher than in most other places. First and foremost, Maine needs government it can afford.
