Beatham propels Tigers past Howlers

DEXTER – Dan Beatham scored what proved to be the game-winner and assisted on another as Dexter concluded its regular season with a 9-2-3 record and a 3-0 high school boys soccer win over Penobscot Valley on Wednesday.

The Howlers of Howland fell to 7-3-3.

Devon Grant and Ethan Woodman had the other goals and David Haskell picked up an assist. Chris Eastman made eight saves on 19 shots.

Brian Harris made 12 stops on 25 shots for the Howlers.

Central 5, Orono 1

At Corinth, Danny Kane tallied three goals as Central upset Orono.

Tyler Speed and Ryan Bean added a goal apiece for the 6-3-4 Red Devils. Jake Speed, Scott Kelly and Levi Nickerson had assists. Charles Haney had 13 saves on 17 shots.

Ian Staples scored for the 10-2-1 Red Riots and Nate Peterson saved seven out of 16 shots.

JV: Central 3-2

Schenck 2, Lee 1

At Lee, Aaron Hutchins netted the game-winning goal with one minute remaining in the game to lift Schenck of East Millinocket past Lee Academy.

Kenny Thompson scored a goal in the first half off a pass from Trevor Violette. Lanny Thompson made 12 saves on 19 shots for the 4-8-2 Wolverines.

Shi-Woo Yu scored a goal for Lee to tie the game. Jon Connick made 11 saves on 16 shots for the 7-5-2 Pandas.

Medomak 2, Mount View 1

At Waldoboro, Gardner Dyer scored the game-winning goal with 9:28 remaining in the game off a pass from Jared Simmons to lead Medomak Valley to victory.

Josh Chamberlin scored a goal assisted by Simmons. Myles Felch made two saves on seven shots for the 6-6-1 Panthers.

Matt Abbott netted the goal for Mount View with 1:51 left in the game. Sam Ray and Ross Caron combined to make nine saves on 16 shots for the 5-6-3 Mustangs of Thorndike.

MCI 1, Lincoln Acad. 1 (2OT)

At Pittsfield, Matt Ford scored with 9 minutes left in regulation for the Eagles of Newcastle to force overtime.

Troy Murray gave Maine Central Institute a 1-0 lead with a first-half tally.

Benson Ford had nine saves on 19 shots for the Huskies while Lincoln Academy’s Kevin Conant stopped eight out of 23.

Field hockey

Foxcroft 4, Hermon 3

At Dover-Foxcroft, Kelsey Boss netted two goals as Foxcroft Academy held off Hermon.

Jen Gagnon had a goal plus an assist and Amy Molinaro added a goal for the 9-4-1 Ponies. Renee Maheu had five saves on eight shots.

Katrice Bryant scored two goals and Jamie Beers one for the 2-10-2 Hawks. Sarah Yoder stopped 23 of 27 shots.

JV: Foxcroft 4-0

Girls soccer

Foxcroft 3, MDI 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Leslie Martin scored a pair of goals to lift Foxcroft Academy past Mount Desert Island.

Angela Francis added a goal for the 5-6-3 Ponies. Sarah Whittemore had five saves on seven shots.

Emma Clement scored for the 1-12 Trojans and Bridgette Pratt stopped four out of 13 shots.

Searsport 1, Orono 0

At Orono, Tianna Faunce scored an unassisted goal in the first half to lift Searsport past Orono.

Amanda Chaney made nine saves on 14 shots for the Vikings.

Brittney Pinkham stopped eight out of 15 shots for the Red Riots.

Bucksport 2, John Bapst 0

At Bucksport, Keely Sullivan and Lindsey Gordon each scored an unassisted goal to lead Bucksport by John Bapst.

Katie Hurd stopped all five shots she faced for the 10-1-2 Golden Bucks.

Caroline Cassling made 14 saves on 21 shots for the 6-6-1 Crusaders of Bangor.
