Merrill Bank received the 2006 Maine Downtown Achievement Award in the category of Outstanding Building Rehabilitation Project on Wednesday at the annual Maine Downtown Conference in Waterville.

The Maine Downtown Center is a Maine Development Foundation program and works to achieve economic growth and historic preservation in Maine’s town centers. The award recognized Merrill Bank’s $1.6 million renovation of 183 Main St. in Bangor, which transformed an empty, unused historic building into a functioning financial service center and Bangor Museum and Center for History exhibit space.
