THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Freshman running back Bryan Ferguson gained 149 yards and scored two touchdowns on 33 carries to lead the Husson College Eagles past Maritime College 27-19 in Saturday football action.

The Privateers outrushed Husson 301 to 171 yards, but turned the ball over seven times.

David Chase completed eight of 18 passes for 61 yards and one touchdown to Jeremy Shorey, who accounted for 42 of those yards on the receiving end.

Husson scored 13 points in the third quarter to take firm control. Luis Tejeda recovered a fumble and returned it 46 yards for a touchdown and Ferguson scored the other on a 4-yard run.

Joe Melcher of Portland led Husson with six solo tackles and Ross Salovitch had 51/2.

Benjamin Swedish ran the ball 21 times for 158 yards and a touchdown for Maritime.

MMA 21, Mass. Maritime 19

At Portland, Maine Maritime Academy won the Admiral’s Cup with a victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy at Fitzpatrick Stadium Saturday.

The MMA Mariners are now 22-12 in the series with their second straight victory over Mass Maritime. It is also the third straight win of the season for the 4-2 Mariners.

Maine Maritime took a 21-0 lead into the fourth quarter only to weather a furious rally by the visitors.

After Rob Leighton of Auburn picked off a pass and returned it 26 yards to midfield, the Mariners scored six minutes into the game on fullback Jim Bower’s 1-yard touchdown run. Brandon Hamilton of Skowhegan capped a 12-play, 62-yard drive with a TD run and two-point conversion run in the second quarter. Hamilton finished with 97 yards and two touchdowns on 39 carries. He also passed for 45 yards.

Nate Bolduc of Farmington and Brian Guillerault of South Portland led the Mariners with seven tackles each.

Joe DeFrank led the 3-3 Buccaneers by completing 17 of 34 passes for 159 yards and three touchdowns.

UMaine Club 27, Exeter 6

At Dover, N.H., Sunday, Brett Davison threw for three touchdowns to lead the University of Maine Black Bears Club past the Exeter Gamblers.

The Black Bears clinched the east division title of the Northeast Independent Football League with the win.

Also for UMaine, Matt Littlefield scored on a 1-yard run after Davison threw TD passes to Gil Cyr, Dan Sprogis and Steve McGuire.

Exeter’s only score came on Kyle Jones’ 1-yard TD run in the third quarter.

At Clinton, N.Y., sophomore quarterback Ben Saccomano passed for 116 yards and touchdown and ran for 77 more yards to lead Hamilton past the visiting Polar Bears.

John Lawrence scored the first touchdown of the game on a 2-yard run in the first quarter to cap a nine-play, 50-yard drive. Saccomano then hit Frasher Kempe for a 16-yard D pass with 33 seconds left in the first half to cap the scoring.

Junior Jeff Smith had a game-high 124 yards on 29 carries and wideout Doug Johnson caught nine passes for 180 yards, but the 0-4 Polar Bears couldn’t generate any points as they lost three of nine fumbles and were intercepted three times.

Wesleyan 17, Bates 14

At Lewiston, Chris Helsel’s 27-yard field goal in overtime gave Wesleyan College the victory over Bates.

Helsel made good on a third chance after having two field goal attempts (31 and 25 yards) fail, one on a block, in the fourth quarter.

Wesleyan quarterback Zach Librizzi completed just 17 of 43 passes, but threw for 228 yards – most of which went to two receivers: Ryan Walsh (eight catches for 116 yards) and Danny Granatell (seven, 111).

Bates’ Shawki White picked off a pass from Zach Canter and returned it 67 yards for a touchdown. Brandon Colon hit 16 of 39 passes for 145 yards for the Bobcats.

Amherst 38, Colby 3

At Amherst, Mass., the Lord Jeffs stormed out of the locker room at halftime and exploded for 28 points while shutting the visiting White Mules out and turning a 10-3 game into a runaway.

Amherst quarterback Nick Kehoe completed 21 of 31 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns without any interceptions. Justin Macione caught five passes for 82 yards and Jim Eckenrode had three for 85 yards and two touchdowns.

Justin Smith threw for 112 yards on 12-for-22 passing with no interceptions for Colby.
