New time set for Young family benefit supper

The time has been changed for a Benefit Spaghetti Dinner and Raffle for the Young family of Newburgh.

Royce Young has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Stage 3 lymphoma and will be undergoing treatment in Bangor and Boston.

The Young Family Benefit Dinner and Raffle is now from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Hampden Kiwanis Hall on Main Road North.

The event was previously scheduled for 4-7 p.m.

Raffle items include restaurant gift certificates and sky box seats for University of Maine basketball. The event also includes a 50/50 raffle.

In you cannot attend, but wish to help the family through this difficult time, direct donations can be made at Maine Savings Federal Credit Union, or mailing them to Maine Savings, Benefit of Royce Young, P.O. Box 347, Hampden 04444.

Donations for the raffle will be accepted through Friday, Oct. 20.

Registration is still open for The Institute for Civic Leadership workshop, Nonprofit Board Financial Oversight: You Don’t Have To Be An Accountant.

The workshop begins with a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and the conference from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 18, at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center, 80 Belmont Ave. in Belfast.

The registration fee is $70 for the first person and $55 for each additional person from the same group.

Everything ranging from Penobscot Theatre Company and Maine Center for the Arts tickets to an autographed Stephen King book and a cruise and lunch on northern Penobscot Bay are included in the annual Potluck Supper, Silent Auction and Contradance hosted by volunteers of the Orono Bog Boardwalk.

The fundraiser, featuring the Marsh Island Band, is 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Keith Anderson Community Center in Orono.

Tickets are $10 each or $25 for families, and $5 with a student ID. More than 40 items are included in the silent auction.

This is one of two annual fundraisers, Jim Bird wrote in expressing the organization’s “hope that everyone who enjoys the Orono Bog Boardwalk can come.”

On behalf of Women with Wings, Maria Hautala invites you to enjoy a very special benefit concert, Singing for Peace, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Brick Church on the corner of Maine and Union streets in Bangor.

The suggested contribution is $10.

The concert features Women with Wings, Sviata Duma, Voices for Peace and Women Rising.

All proceeds benefit the Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine.

Hautala is a member of Women with Wings, a group who “sing in sacred circle, every Thursday evening, at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Bangor,” she wrote.

“We have invited the other choruses to join us for this benefit concert.”

Sviata Duma is part of the Maine Balkan Women’s Chorus, Voices for Peace is the Peace and Justice Center chorus, and Women Rising is from Blue Hill.

Child care professionals can attend a free Transportation Training program offered by Penquis Community Action Program Resource Development Center.

The workshop, which will focus on child restraint systems and belt systems and how they work together, is from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Penquis CAP, 262 Harlow St. in Bangor.

Nancy Grant reports Three Rivers Kiwanis Club of Milo-Brownville will host a Coffee House from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Milo Town Hall Arts Center.

Admission is $8 per person for the fundraiser that features free coffee and cold drinks, delicious deserts and the delightful music of Evergreen.

Proceeds benefit the club’s Secret Santa program.

Carol Lackedy reminds readers that seats and tables are still available for the Anah Shrine Keystone Kops first Dinner Auction at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Spectacular Event Center in Bangor.

The dinner menu includes roast top round of beef and sliced turkey breast.

The silent and auction features “exercise equipment, overnight getaways, loads of crushed stone for your yard, dinners, a $400 Saliba’s rug, shopping certificates, jewelry, golf, camping supplies and much more,” she wrote.
