The Maine Department of Transportation will install wire loops in the pavement on the Veterans Remembrance Bridge, which carries I-395 over the Penobscot River on Tuesday through Thursday, Oct. 17-19. These loops are used to monitor and record traffic movement over roads, interstates and highways. As a result, there will be intermittent lane closures on eastbound and westbound lanes, leaving one lane in either direction for travel. “The site is part of our statewide network of data collection sites which provide us traffic-related information used in planning future highway improvements and for tracking travel trends around the state,” Pete Pelletier of the DOT said in a prepared statement.
