International Week, UMaine

ORONO – International Week is being observed at the University of Maine Oct. 22-Nov. 3 with a variety of events. All are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted:

Modern Languages and Classics : Language Table, noon-1 p.m., 207 Little Hall. Students, faculty members and native speakers are invited to gather and talk in an informal setting where all topics, big or small, are discussed in the designated language. French, Oct. 23 and 30; Russian, Oct. 24 and 31; German, Oct. 25 and Nov. 1; Spanish, Oct. 26 and Nov. 2.

Women in the Curriculum, 12:15-1:30 p.m. Oct. 25, Bangor Lounge, Memorial Union. “Three Sisters Reclaim the Commons: Indigenous Culture, Perma Culture, and Digital Culture,” Joline Blais.

International Coffee Hour, 4-5 p.m. Oct. 27 and Nov. 3. Gathering around coffee and snacks. Held weekly during the academic year, North Pod of the Market Place, Memorial Union.

Culturefest: A Celebration of Countries and Cultures, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Oct. 28, Field House, Memorial Gym. Cultural exhibits, international food court, talent, style show.

Canadian Distinguished Lecturer Neil LeBlanc, Canadian Consul General to New England, noon-2 p.m. Oct. 31, Alfond Arena Family Lounge. “The New Face of Canada’s Conservative Government.”

Cultural Celebration: Day of the Dead, 10 a.m.-noon Nov. 1, Hudson Museum. Learn about the Day of the Dead, Los Dias De Los Muertos, a Mexican holiday which honors departed family, friends and ancestors. Traditional refreshments. RSVP at 581-1901.
