BUCKSPORT – Maine Maritime Academy’s schooner Bowdoin, the official vessel of the state of Maine, took part in the boat parade marking the opening of the new Penobscot Narrows Bridge. The BridgeFest committee and the Maine Department of Transportation coordinated the nautical parade as part of a series of events surrounding the Oct. 14 Bridgewalk celebration.
The committee worked with Maine DOT to arrange for a mini-parade, food vendors and music to be part of the community celebration. The New Penobscot Narrows bridge deck was open to the public, with local high school bands, a color guard and Civil War re-enactors marching across the deck.
