University of Maine psychology student Barbara Vittum is hosting a Wine Tasting Benefit from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at Bucksport Golf Club on Route 46 in that community.

The event is being conducted in recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and proceeds will benefit the supplemental fund of Caring Connections, a cooperative women’s health program of the Bangor Y and Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Admission is a $25 donation, and tickets must be purchased in advance, reports Ro LeGasse of Caring Connections.

“No tickets will be sold at the door,” she explained, “since organizers need to plan for refreshments and seating.”

To purchase your tickets or obtain more information, call Vittum at 469-7844 or Caring Connections at 941-2808, ext. 337.

Your donation “entitles you to tasty samples of several fine wines, delicious hors d’oeuvres, scrumptious desserts, spectacular live entertainment and a social gathering that celebrates and enjoys life,” LeGasse wrote.

“Free coffee, tea and bottled water will be available, and servings of wine, beer and soda” can be purchased.

Proceeds from the event, LeGasse wrote, will assist the women who are served by these programs “with their breast health and breast-cancer related needs.”

For a fun, family evening, be sure to join members of the Central High School Fine Arts Boosters Club as they host the Zoot Suit Revue at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at CHS in Corinth.

Tickets for the show that features performers in brightly colored costumes dancing to music of days gone by are $5, and will be available at the door.

Directed by Chuck and Sue McKay of Orrington, members of Zoot Suit Revue donate their time and energy for worthy causes, so all proceeds from the program will benefit the CHS Fine Arts program.

Goodwin hopes many of you will “come and enjoy this lively show.”

Reservations are necessary, and must be made by Monday, Oct. 23, for anyone planning to attend the Down East Hospice Benefit Dinner hosted by Michele Cyr and staff of Redclyffe Restaurant.

Doors open for that fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, with dinner being served at 6 p.m. at Redclyffe, which is located on Route 1, overlooking the St. Croix River in Robbinston.

Tickets are $25 each and seating is limited, so make reservations now by visiting Redclyffe, visiting or calling the DEH office, 454-7521, ext. 126, or calling Linda Gralenski at 726-5837.

The menu features many of the restaurant’s most popular offerings from roast beef to seafood casserole and stuffed pork tenderloin.

Proceeds benefit DEH, a nonprofit organization offering free care to residents of Washington County who are suffering from a terminal illness, and respite and bereavement care for their families.

DEH relies on contributions, grants and fundraisers such as this to provide these services.
