DYER BROOK – Jeremy Burke blasted a 25-yard shot after a throw-in with 21 seconds left in overtime as the 12th-ranked Woodland Dragons upset the No. 5 Southern Aroostook Warriors 2-1 in an Eastern Maine Class D boys soccer preliminary game Thursday.
The Warriors outshot the Dragons 35-7.
Burke also scored a goal four minutes into the game from an assist from Cody Sappier. Todd Townsend made 31 saves for the 9-4-1 winners.
Josh Branscombe scored off a Rob Toothaker pass for 9-6 SAHS and Colby Clark made five saves.
DI-Stonington 4, Katahdin 2
At Stacyville, No. 9 Deer Isle-Stonington rallied to score four goals in the second half and defeat No. 8 Katahdin.
Collin Ciomei netted two goals while Eban Powers and Bryant Ciomei each added one. Rob Brown made six saves on 12 shots for the 10-2-3 Mariners.
Marshall Davis and Peter Johnson each scored a goal for Katahdin. Matt Tarr made six saves on 13 shots for the 8-6-1 Cougars.
Class C
GSA 2, Washington Acad. 1
At East Machias, Dario Casadevall scored with 6:23 left in overtime to lift No. 10 George Stevens of Blue Hill past No. 7 Washington Academy.
Steven Ensworth added a goal for the 6-7-2 Eagles and Rashad Frazier had 18 saves on 20 shots.
Min Kim scored in the second half for the 11-4 Raiders. Josiah Jackson stopped 15 of 19 shots.
Penobscot Valley 3, Madawaska 2
At Howland, Ryan Ware netted two goals, including the game-winner with 16 minutes left in the game to lead No. 6 Penobscot Valley by No. 11 Madawaska.
Derrick Bellvance recorded the assist on Ware’s second goal. Dylan Thompson scored Penobscot Valley’s second goal in the first half to make the score 2-2 at halftime. Matt Theriault and Brandon Vainio each tallied an assist. Brian Harris stopped six of eight shots for the 9-3-3 Howlers.
Tyler Levesque scored two goals in the first half for Madawaska. Nate Beaulieu made nine saves on 16 shots for the 6-8-1 Owls.
Class B
MCI 3, Medomak Valley 2 (OT)
At Pittsfield, Dustin Varney netted two goals, including the game-winner with 30 seconds remaining in overtime to lift No. 7 Maine Central Institute past No. 10 Medomak Valley of Waldoboro.
Brandon Glencross scored the first goal for MCI off a pass from Mark Neace. Benson Bonsu blocked six of 11 shots for the 7-5-3 Huskies.
Josh Chamberlain and Mark Laliberte each scored a goal for Medomak Valley. Miles Felch made six saves on 13 shots for the 6-8-1 Panthers.
Class A
Edward Little 1, Old Town 0
At Auburn, Billy Brewster scored what proved to be the game-winning goal off a corner kick by Eric Prue in the first half to lead No. 7 Edward Little by No. 10 Old Town.
Josh Mains stopped eight of 10 shots for the 9-4-2 Red Eddies.
Sam Petrie made eight saves on 11 shots for the 6-7-2 Coyotes.
Field hockey
Class B
Belfast 4, Winslow 1
At Belfast, Briana Curry scored a pair of goals as No. 1 Belfast defeated No. 8 Winslow.
Jill Ross and Brooke Reed each added a first half goal. Ross tallied two assists while Kallie Aldus and Skye Ellis each had one. Liz Anderson made eight saves on 10 shots for the 15-0 Lions.
Ali Kriegel netted a goal for Winslow off a pass from Lauren Nivison. Emma Walters stopped 10 of 14 shots for the 8-8 Black Raiders.
Foxcroft 3, John Bapst 2
At Bangor, Jen Gagnon scored off an assist from Emily Hutchinson during a penalty corner in overtime as No. 5 Foxcroft edged the No. 4 Crusaders.
Before overtime, all of the scoring occurred in the first half with Christina Andrle putting Bapst on the board 2:06 into the half off an assist from Meagan Tilton. Kelsey Boss answered with an unassisted goal for the Ponies with 10:28 left.
John Bapst responded with an Alison Krause goal off a Tilton assist, but Foxcroft tied it at 2-2 when Hutchinson converted a Boss pass.
Renee Maheau made three saves on five shots for 10-4-1 Foxcroft and Hillary Laferriere had 13 saves on 17 shots for 10-5 John Bapst.
Girls soccer
Class D
Lee 6, Fort Fairfield 1
At Lee, Aarika Ritchie scored two goals and notched two assists and Amanda Gifford added two goals as No. 3 Lee eliminated No. 6 Fort Fairfield in quarterfinal action.
Dana Houghton and Carol Ann Albert each chipped in with a goal for the 13-2 Pandas and Kimmy Thurlow had an assist. Karin Bird made seven saves on 14 shots.
Kerri Cunningham scored an unassisted goal for the 8-8 Tigers and Kelly Osgood made 14 saves on 35 shots.
