A Stockton Springs couple has been appointed to serve as the ministers of music at St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church. Both the Rev. Carlton Russell and his wife, Lorna Russell, who retired two years ago to their summer home, are professional organists and choir directors with decades of experience between them. Lorna Russell earned her undergraduate degree from Wheaton College in Norton, Mass., and her master’s degree from Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. For more than 30 years, she taught high school French and served as an organist or choir director in Massachusetts churches. The Massachusetts chapter of the American Guild of Organists honored her for her work in that state. The Rev. Carlton Russell graduated in 1985 from the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass., and was ordained an Episcopal priest the same year. He earned his undergraduate degree from Amherst College in Amherst, Mass., and his master’s degree and doctorate from Princeton University in Princeton, N.J. He taught music at Wheaton College for 40 years. Since moving to Maine, Carleton Russell has served as interim music minister at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Camden. Lorna Russell has served as the organist and choir director at Christ Church in Islesboro during the summer.
