Women in God, an interfaith, nonprofit organization will hold their third annual conference Sunday, Oct. 29, titled “Spirit in Action.” Jane Honeck, who founded the Portland-based group in 2004, said earlier this week in a press release that she expects about 200 women to attend the event at the Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport. “In this time of war, hate and fear we need time to remember what is right with the world,” Honeck said. “We need a chance to stop the clock and refresh our souls. The day is all about hope, understanding and joy. We want women to leave feeling refreshed and uplifted as if they had spent the day at a spiritual spa.” Albanian-American writer and peace activist Shqipe Malushi will speak at the conference of her work in Kabul, Afghanistan, as part of Women’s Campaign International. Other speakers include Patricia Reis, a Portland psychotherapist and author of “Through the Goddess: A Woman’s Way of Healing,” and Louise P. Bias, a crusader against substance abuse and mother of the late Len Bias, a Boston Celtics draftee, who died of a drug overdose celebrating being picked to play professional basketball.
