BANGOR – A Bangor man was released on Friday on $10,000 unsecured bail after being charged in U.S. District Court with possession of child pornography.

Johnathan M. Nutter, 30, faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Nutter is expected to be indicted next month by a federal grand jury in Bangor.

Earlier this year, Yahoo! reported that during a routine audit of its Web sites, an employee had found child pornography that had been posted to one.

The 156 images suspected to be pornography were traced to Nutter’s account, which listed an Augusta address, according to court documents. The account was canceled in May.

Through Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicle records, police discovered that Nutter was living on Kenduskeag Avenue in Bangor, according to court documents.

Nutter allegedly told a Bangor police detective last month that he had been trading images of child pornography on the Internet on a weekly basis since July 2005.
