Merchants in the region are being asked to examine closely the paper money they receive from customers. Police Chief Dennis Dyer said his department has received a handful of counterfeit $20, $50 and $100 bills from merchants over the past few weeks. Merchants should use their special marking pen to ensure the bills they receive are legitimate, the police chief said on Thursday. Dyer suspects that a couple of juveniles are involved in the crime. If local merchants suspect they have counterfeit money, they should contact the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department at 564-8021.
