UM women tie mark, clinch No. 3 AE seed

BALTIMORE, Md. – Laura Harper scored two goals Sunday as the University of Maine shut out Maryland Baltimore County 3-0 in women’s soccer action.

Kim Stephenson of Hampden tallied her first-career goal for the 13-3-1 Black Bears, who tied a school single-season record for victories and clinched the No. 3 seed in the upcoming America East playoffs.

Veronique Fleury tallied an assist and Jasmine Phillips made four saves on five shots for her 10th shutout.

Robin Barbaris and Carly Agro combined to make seven saves on 14 shots for UMBC.

UMPI 3, UMM 0

At Presque Isle Sunday, Shelby Cousins, Leah Joy and Tabitha Gamblin each scored unassisted to lead UMaine-Presque Isle over UMaine-Machias.

Billie Martin made two saves on two shots for the 3-11 Owls.

Alicia Schmidt had 21 saves on 24 shots for 5-11 UMaine-Machias.

Maine Maritime 4, UMPI 0

At Castine, Maine Maritime outshot UMaine-Presque Isle 34-1 Saturday en route to the victory.

Kristen Gabor, Jessie Taylor, Lindsey Comeau and Ashley Douglass each scored a goal for the 9-4-2 Mariners. Nicole McKenna, Kristen Gaylord and Diana Manatt-Rogers tallied an assist apiece and Hillary Arris earned the shutout without making a save.

Billie Martin made six saves on 34 shots for the Owls.

UM-Farmington 3, Thomas 0

At Farmington, Erin Campbell scored two goals in an eight-minute span in the second half Saturday to lead UMaine-Farmington over Thomas College of Waterville.

Jackie Mrazik added a goal and Julie Walters and Katharina Berger each had an assist for the 12-6 Beavers.

UM-Fort Kent 6, UMM 0

At Fort Kent, Maria Williams scored two goals and assisted on another Sunday as UMaine-Fort Kent finished the regular season undefeated.

Nicole Nowakowski had a goal and an assist for the 15-0 Bengals. Jodyann Blake, Caroline Faust and Sarah Pinette netted a goal apiece and Kerri Frazer added an assist. Heather Hartman recorded her 10th shutout without making a save.

Alicia Schmidt made 26 saves on 40 shots for the 5-10 Clippers.

Colby 4, Conn. College 2

At Waterville Saturday, Laura Williamson and Meg Cordner each had a goal and an assist to lead Colby past Connecticut College.

With the goal, Williamson became the first Colby player in program history to reach 100 career points. Katie McCabe and Libba Cox each scored a goal for the 8-2-3 White Mules. Meggie Herlihy added an assist and Liza Benson made four saves on 13 shots.

Rachael Schefrin had a goal and an assist and Analisse Rios added a goal for the 2-9 Camels. Sarah Beaudoin made seven saves on 15 shots.

Saint Joseph’s 3, Wheelock 0

At Standish Sunday, Heather Stanger netted two goals as Saint Joseph’s defeated Wheelock.

Brianna Jordan added a goal and Megan Willee had an assist for the 9-6 Monks. Shannon Northrop saved the only shot she faced.

Alyee Jordan made eight saves on 20 shots for 6-10 Wheelock.

Brandeis 3, Saint Joseph’s 0

At Waltham, Mass. Saturday, Lizzie Bremner scored a pair of goals as Brandeis defeated Saint Joseph’s of Standish.

Meredith Milstein scored for the 8-3-3 Judges. Julie Scherr made two saves for her first shutout of the season.

Shannon Northrop had five saves for the 8-6 Monks.

Eastern Conn. 1, So. Maine 0

At Gorham Saturday, Nicole Gaudette scored the lone goal early in the second half to give Eastern Connecticut the win over Southern Maine.

Heather-Lynn Spada tallied an assist and Megan Gloster made two saves on 10 shots for the 11-5-1 Warriors.

Meghan Ibar had four saves on 13 shots for the 5-10 Huskies.

Men’s soccer

Maine Maritime 1, Lesley 0

At Castine Sunday, senior Andy Pease scored on a Ben Touangeau feed as Maine Maritime held off Lesley for the win.

Luke McPartlin made four saves on 14 shots for the 1-12-4 Mariners.

Imad Elkatrip made six saves on 16 shots for the Lynx.

UMPI 2, MMA 1 (2OT)

At Castine, Matt Petrie scored on a Chase Higgins cross in the 97th minute Saturday to give UMaine-Presque Isle the win over Maine Maritime.

Robert Allen scored the first goal for the 7-5-1 Owls. Scott Clenchy made six saves on 13 shots.

Alan Alexander scored on a Mark Knight assist for the 0-12-4 Mariners. Luke McPartlin and Brian Nason combined to make six saves on 18 shots.

UM-Presque Isle 5, UMM 0

At Presque Isle Sunday, Matt Free netted two goals to lead UMaine-Presque Isle over UMaine-Machias.

Travis Parent, Victor Jacques and Nate Hale each tallied a goal and Matt Petrie, Joe Pinault and Curtis Alley had an assist apiece for the 8-5-1 Owls. Scott Clenchy saved all three shots he faced.

Kellen Schaver made 11 saves on 16 shots for the 5-5-1 Clippers.

UM-Fort Kent 3, UM-Machias 0

At Fort Kent on Saturday, Andy Martin scored two goals, including the game-winner, as UMaine-Fort Kent rolled past UM-Machias.

Donatas Sumyla added a goal and Emlyn Jacoby, Dwayne Smith and Sean Platt each had an assist for the 11-2 Bengals. Derrick Pourde made two saves on two shots for the shutout.

Kellen Shaver made 11 saves on 28 shots for the 6-7-1 Clippers.

Boston University 5, Maine 0

At Orono, Neil Hlavaty and Jin Oh each netted two goals Saturday to lead Boston University by Maine.

Dan Schultz added a goal for the 9-4-4 Terriers. Zach Riffett, Hrafn Davidson and Joe Cullaro combined to make four saves on seven shots.

Ben Piotrowski made five saves on 17 shots for the 0-17 Black Bears.

Husson 8, Lesley 0

At Bangor, Oscar Ody scored three goals as Husson rolled past Lesley University.

Nattapong Kongsuriya had a goal and three assists while Joshua Bartlett, Tataka Matsui, Nathan Carter and Hiroki Ueda each added a goal. Bradley Ala stopped all 10 shots he faced for the 12-3-2 Eagles.

Imad Elkatrib made 12 saves on 20 shots for the 2-6-1 Lynx.

UM-Farmington 3, Thomas 0

At Farmington, Alec Brown scored two goals Saturday to lead UMaine-Farmington over Thomas of Waterville.

Phineas Peake added a goal and Ryan Pelletier had two assist. Jeff Tatarczuk added an assist and Brian Lemont made one save for the 6-8-3 Beavers.

Saint Joseph’s 3, Newbury 1

At Standish Sunday, Kevin Melega scored three goals to lead Saint Joseph’s past Newbury.

David Hakes, Kevin Hargerman and Ma Cullum each had an assist for the 8-8 Monks. Cory Smith made three saves on 11 shots.

John Mawson scored the lone goal for 5-10-1 Newbury. Cory Smith made three saves on 13 shots.

Colby 2, Conn. College 0

At Waterville, Daniel Kiernan and Jim Pilgrim each netted a goal Saturday to lead Colby by Connecticut College.

Todd Boertzel tallied an assist on Pilgrim’s goal in the second half. Josh Kahane made four saves seven shots for the 5-5-2 White Mules.

Ted Lane made four saves on nine shots for the 4-7-1 Camels.

Eastern Conn. 3, So. Maine 0

At Willimantic, Conn., Jay Barney recorded his third shutout of the season Saturday as Eastern Connecticut blanked the University of Southern Maine of Gorham.

Shane Laughran, Derek Miles and Rukevwe Ehwarieme each scored a goal. Barney made seven saves on 10 shots for the 6-5-5 Warriors.

Chris Willard made eight saves on 21 shots for the 8-9 Huskies.

N.H.Tech 2, Unity 0

At Unity, Nick Squires and Michael Gianitsis each netted a goal Sunday as the New Hampshire Technological Institute won the Yankee Small Conference Championship.

Brandon Dyrkacz made six saves on 10 shots for (8-5) NHTI.

Tyler Ferguson had nine saves on 13 shots for the 10-2 Rams.

Field hockey

Maine 2, UMBC 0

At Orono, Kim MacDonald and Gina Legge scored a goal each Sunday as the University of Maine shutout Maryland Baltimore County.

Erin Reusch tallied an assist and Rebecca Rioux made three saves on four shots for the 7-9 Black Bears.

Ashley Benitz made 13 saves on 23 shots for 1-13 UMBC.

UM-Farmington 6, Becker 0

At Farmington Sunday, Erika Lucas had a goal and an assist and Andrea Taylor had two assists to lead UMaine- Farmington to the win over Becker.

Elyse Cole, Amanda Pullen, Samantha Kennison, Taryn Trefethen and Brooke Plaisted had a goal apiece for the 12-2 Beavers. Kaeleigh Barker posted her 10th shutout without making a save.

UM-Farmington 5, Elms 0

At Farmington on Saturday, five different players scored as UMaine-Farmington shut out Elms.

Kristen Chambers, Amanda Pullen, Amanda Fortin, Elyse Cole and Brooke Paisted notched a goal apiece for the 11-2 Beavers. Andrea Tyler chipped in an assist as the Beavers outshot the Blazers 33-0.

Connecticut College 3, Colby 2

At Waterville, Jill Mauer had two goals and an assist Saturday to lead Connecticut College over Colby.

Kelsey Fredericks added a goal and Jamie Sheahan made three saves on 10 shots for the 6-6 Camels.

Mary Clare Snediker scored on a Kyla Wagman assist for the 3-9 White Mules. Jamie Enos made 10 saves on 14 shots.

Saint Joseph’s 3, Anna Maria 2

At Standish, Julia Ostrowski scored two goals Sunday as Saint Joseph’s held off Anna Maria for the win.

Kelly Emerson added a goal and Gina Gaetani, Darcey Ward and Jessica Barker each tallied an assist for the 6-8 Monks. Karrie Siois made four saves on seven shots.

Jodie Dube and Nicole Eldridge each notched a goal for 3-13 Anna Maria. Alicia Gray added an assist and Rachel Braier made eight saves on 10 shots.

Volleyball

Long Island 3, Maine 1

At Brooklyn, N.Y., Long Island defeated Maine 27-30, 30-24, 30-24, 30-17 on Saturday. With the loss, Maine drops to 4-16 overall.

Brittany Kichl led the Black Bears with 13 kills and Laura Goettsch added 10 kills and three blocks. Shelly Seipp had 40 assists.

Women’s hockey

Connecticut 8, Maine 3

At Storrs, Conn., Saturday, Connecticut set an NCAA record with six power-play goals as the Huskies upended the Black Bears.

Jaclyn Hawkins netted three goals and Amy Hollstein added two more. Leslie Hurlburn, Alicia Ramolla and Brittany Wilson each notched a goal for the 4-1 Huskies. Brittany Wilson made 24 saves in the win.

Vanessa Vani, Robyn Law and Brigitte Laflamme tallied a goal apiece for the 1-6 Black Bears. Genevieve Turgeon and Lundy Day combined to make 37 saves.

Northeastern 6, Maine 5

At Boston, Mass. Sunday, Missy Elumba scored two goals, including the game-winner as Northeastern downed Maine.

Sarah Belliveau made 26 saves for the 4-1-0 Huskies.

Vanessa Vani netted three goals for the 1-6 Black Bears. Sonia Corriveau and Brigitte Laflamme added a goal apiece and Lundy Day made 37 saves.
