For 10 years, Sheila Bragg wrote, the Shiretown Homecoming Committee has hosted “a huge celebration the first Saturday in August,” known as Dover-Foxcroft Homecoming.

Everything from a parade to music and fireworks entertain the thousands who attend, she pointed out, “and we need to keep up with our reputation” if the committee is to sponsor what she describes as “the best fireworks display in Central Maine.”

To help continue that tradition, the Shiretown Homecoming Committee is hosting a Haunted House from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the American Legion Hall on Park Street in Dover-Foxcroft.

Admission is $2, and pizza, popcorn, candy, drinks and baked goods will be on sale.

A variety of prizes will be awarded, and your attendance will ensure that the Dover-Foxcroft Homecoming will be as much fun in 2007 as it has been for a decade.

Members of the Dedham Elementary School seventh grade invite you to their Hunter’s Breakfast 4-9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Dedham School on Route 1A.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children and $12 for a family of four. Tickets are available from Dedham Elementary pupils and at the door.

The menu features scrambled eggs, French toast, sausages, bacon, baked beans, home fries, doughnuts and beverages.

Proceeds benefit the pupils’ eighth-grade graduation trip fund.

The public is invited to enjoy Culturefest 2006, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, in the Field House on the campus of the University of Maine in Orono.

Karen Boucias, director of the Office of International Programs and National Student Exchange at UMaine, reports the event is “free to everyone,” and features special children’s activities from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

She reminds readers that “lunch time is the best because the food is so good and very reasonable,” since there is only a small charge to cover the cost of the ingredients.

The traditional International Talent Show and International Fashion Show are always popular and begin at 1 p.m., with each lasting about one hour.

“This year we have 405 international students from 72 countries,” Boucias said, “and this event is just always a very enjoyable, very informative, day.”

Together with the Bangor Police Department and Wal-Mart, the American Business Women’s Association of Bangor is hosting a free Children’s Fingerprinting Clinic, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Wal-Mart in Bangor.

Jan Currier reports members of the Bangor Fire Department will also conduct a demonstration at that time.

The theme of this year’s Enchanted Forest is Pirates of the Caribbean, featuring everything from Captain Hook’s Hayrides to the Treasure Island Trail.

The Enchanted Forest is open for your Halloween fun from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Sprague’s Nursery on Outer Union Street in Bangor.

Admission is $2 per person for families and children 12 and under; some activities have a small additional fee.

All proceeds benefit Children’s Miracle Network of Eastern Maine Healthcare.

Poet M. Kelly Lombardi of Roque Bluffs will read from and sign copies of her new book of poetry at a community gathering in her honor at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Porter Memorial Library on Court Street in Machias.

The ever-popular Pumpkins in the Park is 3:30-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Bangor Auditorium.

Admission for this Community Halloween Party for children and families is $2 and free for children 3 and under. There is an additional $1 charge per person for hayrides.

Now in its fourth year, the event features pumpkin patch displays designed and decorated by volunteers, businesses and organizations; trick-or-treating and other activities.

Hosted by United Cerebral Palsy of Maine, the proceeds help UCP to assist children and adults living with disabilities.

Stephanie Cote of UCP reports that Pumpkins in the Park is being sponsored by Bangor Raceway and Hollywood Slots at Bangor, for the third year.

Retired educators and lifelong Corinth residents Henry and Dorothy Marsh will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Monday, Oct. 30.

Their children, Gerry Marsh and Gloria Burleigh, encourage their parents’ many friends to help them celebrate this very special occasion by sending best wishes with cards, calls and visits.
