Penobscot County officials have forwarded for state review requests of $823,201 for funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Maine has about $2.6 million available in federal funds that will be distributed through the Maine Emergency Management Agency. Topping the county list are two projects: $267,049 to provide mobile data terminals in law enforcement cruisers in seven agencies; and a $95,176 request to purchase software that would give area fire departments greater information about the emergency calls they go to. Also being requested are generators and other equipment for shelters and emergency extrication equipment. In addition, the Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln is seeking $14,014 to establish a communications tower.
