Orrington Scout makes Eagle rank

ORRINGTON – Kyle Allcroft of Boy Scout Troop 44 in Orrington was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout by Scoutmaster Arthur Morgan in a ceremony held Aug. 5 at the East Orrington Congregational Church. The rank of Eagle is the highest level of achievement in the Boy Scouts of America. Only about 5 percent of Boy Scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout.

The ceremony was conducted by members of Troop 44, including Eagle Scouts Dan Phillips, Matt Quimby and Chip Haskell, who served as masters of ceremony.

Allcroft’s grandfather, William Adams of Lewiston and his uncle, Lloyd Irland of Wayne, both Eagle Scouts, joined Kyle in reaffirming the Eagle Scout Promise.

Allcroft started in Scouting in 1995 as a Tiger Cub, crossing over to Boy Scouts in 2000. He also was inducted into the Order of the Arrow.

For his Eagle project, Allcroft raised funds for the materials and constructed a swing set which serves the East Orrington Congregational Church Sunday School and the Tadpoles Christian Preschool.

Allcroft is a senior at Brewer High School and plans to attend college next fall to study computer science. He lives in Orrington with his parents, Kevin and Kay Allcroft, and his brother, Kody.
