Residents urged to attend cultural focus group

Area residents are encouraged to attend a Cultural Assessment Focus group beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the offices of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, 51 Main St., Bangor.

You are asked to register by calling Christina Piazza, 942-5555, or e-mailing bangorarts@hotmail.com.

Piazza explained that “the focus groups are intended as a forum for further discussion of key questions taken from the on-line Cultural Assessment Survey,” which can be found at http://www.bangormaine.gov/CulturalDevelopment.php.

Piazza stressed that “it is important to take the survey and not to let the word ‘culture’ deter participation.

“So far,” she continued, “the survey is telling us that people in the region would like to see more art house films downtown; more activities for children; more professional live theatre; additional festivals; restaurants and cafes that are open in the evening where live music can be heard; and a wider variety of high-quality craft and art galleries.”

Survey results “will be used by the City of Bangor to develop an official plan to direct efforts, money and initiatives that will strengthen Bangor’s cultural economy.”
