2 Swanville sisters hospitalized after pickup-SUV collision

BELFAST – Two Swanville sisters were hospitalized Friday morning after a rollover accident in which a pickup truck crashed into their sport utility vehicle after straying into their driving lane.

Glenda Brown, 59, and Gloria Emery, 65, were taken by ambulance to Waldo County General Hospital after the 9:55 a.m. accident.

Brown’s 14-year-old grandson Justin Philbrook, who was riding in the back seat, was taken to the hospital by Belfast Fire Chief Jim Richards. Philbrook was treated for minor injuries, then released. Brown suffered multiple abrasions and bruises, and Emery suffered broken bones, according to Belfast police Patrolman Bryan Cunningham.

The driver of the 1992 Ford Ranger pickup truck, Hector Bohan, 17, of Swanville, was uninjured. Bohan was taken to the hospital for drug and alcohol testing by Belfast Police Chief Jeffrey Trafton.

Brown was headed toward Belfast along Route 141 when Bohan’s pickup truck, which was heading in the opposite direction, crossed into her driving lane.

Brown attempted to avoid being hit by riding the shoulder of the road, but the truck slammed into the driver’s side of her vehicle. The collision occurred on a gradual curve a few yards from Sandalwood Lane on the Belfast-Swanville line.

“When they hit, she spun around and tried to keep it on the road, but it fetched up on the shoulder and rolled over,” Cunningham said. “Glenda was ejected from the Blazer.”

Cunningham said neither the drivers nor passengers were wearing seat belts. He said that Bohan would be cited for driving across the centerline and that additional charges could be filed once the investigation was completed. The accident tied up traffic along Route 141 for about a half-hour as Waldo County sheriff’s Deputy Ben Seekins reconstructed the accident scene.
