WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Laura Harper scored off a Marie-Andree Canuel assist at 63:12 to lead No. 3 Maine past No. 6 Vermont 2-0 Friday in the first round of the America East women’s soccer tournament.
Maine’s 14th win set a school record for victories in a season.
Canuel added an insurance goal on a Marie-Michele Bouchard assist at 71:03 for the 14-3-1 Black Bears. Jasmine Phillips stopped all three shots she faced for a school-record 11th shutout of the year.
Eliza Bradley made six saves on 16 shots for the 5-10-3 Catamounts.
Volleyball
Maine 3, Stony Brook 1
At Orono, Lindsay Allman had 24 digs and 11 kills to help lead Maine to victory over Stony Brook, 32-30, 28-30, 30-21, 30-28.
Shelly Seipp had 47 set assists and 11 digs for the Black Bears. Laura Goettsch totaled 17 kills, and Jody Connacher had 12 digs. Amanda Armstrong added 11 kills.
Noelle Bay had 12 kills and 11 digs for the Seawolves. Claire Lindner had 16 digs, and Gulce Dikecligil added 16 kills.
Field hockey
Keene State 6, St. Joseph’s 0
At Keene, N.H., Amanda Wirzbicki and Jess Mirisola both had a goal and an assist to lead Keene State over Saint Joseph’s College of Standish.
Steph Georgevists, Alyssa Rowell, Kat Trimmer, and Liz Rand added goals for 14-4 Keene State. Sara Joyce and Jennifer McDougall only had to make one save.
Karrie Sirois blocked 15 shots for the 6-10 Monks.
