Police arrest man for drug possession

Bangor police arrested a Holden man around 10 p.m. Sunday when he was found asleep in a car in possession of cocaine.

Officer Dennis Townsend responded to a report that a man was passed out in a car outside the Comfort Inn on Hogan Road and would not wake up or get out of the car. According to police reports, he met the reporting party outside the Comfort Inn and was shown to the vehicle where Keith Parent, 21, was passed out. Officer Townsend tried to wake Parent and get him out of the car, but Parent was groggy and unresponsive.

When he did awaken, Parent repeatedly reached for his pants and jacket pockets. Police found that Parent was carrying a knife, which they removed. Police reports state that Parent began acting aggressively and he was handcuffed.

According to police reports, Parent was taken to Penobscot County Jail, where it was found that he was carrying a small plastic bag of cocaine and what was identified as two silver crack pipes. Parent was charged with disorderly conduct and possession of Schedule W drugs.

A shoplifter was arrested Sunday evening in Bangor after giving police a false name and date of birth.

According to police reports, Bangor Officer James Dearing responded to a call from Shaw’s Supermarket on Main Street around 8 p.m. When he got there, a loss prevention officer was talking to Antonio Cruz, 26, of Bangor, who was intoxicated. When Dearing approached and began questioning Cruz, he got agitated and belligerent.

Police reports state Cruz was carrying a steak knife in his pocket, and had taken numerous items from the store, including a turkey, two bottles of liquor and a package of steaks. When police questioned them, he initially told them his name was Hector Cruz.

After bringing Cruz to Penobscot County Jail, police reports state Officer Dearing was able to determine the man’s real name and birth date. Cruz had previously been arrested for theft and was out on bail with the conditions that he neither possess nor consume alcohol. Cruz was charged with violation of bail conditions, failure to give the correct name, theft and carrying a concealed weapon.

A Pennsylvania man with two warrants out for his arrest was picked up early Sunday morning in Orono.

According to police reports, John Kauffman, 24, of McAlisterville, Pa., was found walking on Oak Street with an open can of beer in his hand. When the officer drove up to Kauffman, he tried to hide the can.

It was found that there was one warrant out for his arrest for theft by unauthorized taking and another for operating after suspension. He was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail.
