I’ve read the articles in the Bangor Daily News, the editorials, letters to the editor; I’ve watched the televised discussions and I’ve studied the candidates’ Web sites. A few weeks ago I would have said that I could not and would not vote for Olympia Snowe for U.S. Senate because of her continued support of the Bush administration’s policies and actions in Iraq.

But just during the past few weeks she has expressed that “staying the course is neither an option nor a plan.” When asked about Donald Rumsfeld on the televised Voice of the Voter Forum on WLBZ, Snowe replied that he has offered his resignation two times to President Bush and if she were president she would have done differently than Bush, intimating that she would have accepted Rumsfeld’s resignation.

Snowe’s criticism of the Bush administration’s handling of the Iraq war has coincided with her campaign for re-election to the U.S. Senate. Nevertheless, she is now calling for a change of direction. So I have changed my mind and will vote for Snowe on Nov. 7.
