University of Maine junior right wing Rob Bellamy has received a two-game suspension for violating the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct. He will miss Friday night’s game at Merrimack College and Saturday night’s game at Boston University.

Maine coach Tim Whitehead said Bellamy was suspended for “missing class. One in particular.”

Bellamy had two assists in five games before missing last Saturday’s 4-1 win over UMass with a groin strain.

Whitehead said Bellamy has been practicing with the team and would have been available to play if he hadn’t been suspended.

Bellamy, known for his bone-rattling checks, will be replaced by sophomore Jeff Marshall on a line with Keenan Hopson and Billy Ryan. They were linemates against UMass.

In addition to skating a regular shift, Bellamy is one of Maine’s most effective penalty-killers and he saw action early in the season as the net-front presence on the power play.
