Valley Chamber event to aid 10 charities

PALMYRA – The Sebasticook Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting one heck of a bash tonight, a fundraiser that will benefit 10 local charities.

Sparkle is being called “the party you won’t want to miss” by organizers and features entertainment, a fashion show, food, live and silent auctions, all held at Millennium, a banquet facility on Route 100 in Palmyra.

“We wanted to do a different type of fundraiser,” SVCC Director Jane Briggs said Wednesday. “It is the vision of the chamber that by working together in a concentrated effort, Sparkle will enhance each of the charities in a significant way.”

The benefiting charities are the Etna Town Landing project, Detroit sports field, Dexter Food Cupboard, Irving Tanning Community Center, Newport Cultural Center, Palmyra Giving Tree, Pittsfield Public Library building fund, Sebasticook Valley Community Center, Sebasticook Valley Middle School parent-teacher group and the Stetson Historical Society.

Briggs said that two-thirds of the net proceeds will go to the charities.

Tickets are $30 per person and $50 per couple and will be available at the door. Attire is “casually elegant,” Briggs said. The event runs from 6 to 10 p.m.

Some of the items up for auction include a week in a condominium at Cape Cod, a weekend at a Schoodic Point cottage, heating oil, a signed NHL hockey stick, a Kennebec River boat trip, golf equipment and packages, antiques, original art and gift certificates for groceries, gasoline, dental and optical services.
