BANGOR – U.S. 2nd District congressional candidate Laurence “Scott” D’Amboise held a press conference Thursday to dispute incumbent Rep. Michael Michaud’s voting record and stance on key issues in this year’s election.
“I’m here for the concern of our people in District 2,” D’Amboise said. “I’m very concerned with my opponent’s voting record.”
He stated that Michaud is 0 for 41 in passing legislation he has sponsored.
“Clearly, if you look at [D’Amboise’s] polling numbers, this is a sign of desperation for this campaign,” Monica Castellanos, Michaud’s spokeswoman, said Thursday in a phone interview. “I don’t think that [D’Amboise] fully understands the legislative process.”
She said that oftentimes in Congress, legislation is moved forward as part of larger bills, rather than the way it originally was sponsored.
D’Amboise also questioned his opponent’s voting record on issues such as abortion, immigration and veterans’ issues.
“I want people to understand truly the fact that he’s a career politician,” D’Amboise said. “He has done nothing.”
Castellanos disagreed.
“The congressman has consistently looked at individual pieces of legislation, [and] depending on what that legislation is, he makes a decision how to vote,” she said.
Both candidates will continue to campaign throughout the district in the few days leading up to the Nov. 7 election.
