CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Amy Zdrojesky scored off a Katie Flaherty assist 9:05 into overtime to lead third-seeded University of Maine to victory over No. 2 Albany 1-0 in the America East semifinals Friday afternoon.
Maine will play top-seeded Boston University in Sunday’s championship game at 1 p.m. BU defeated No. 4 Vermont 1-0.
Rebecca Giroux made six saves on nine shots for the 8-10 Black Bears.
Ashley Ross made four saves on six shots for 12-7 Albany.
Women’s ice hockey
Maine 3, North Dakota 1
At Orono, Pam Patterson scored two first-period goals to help lead the University of Maine to victory over North Dakota.
Robyn Law added a second-period goal for the 2-7-1 Black Bears with assists from Jenna Ouellette and Vanessa Vani. Chantal Jalliet provided an assist, and Genevieve Turgeon stopped 31 of 32 shots for Maine’s first home win.
Alexia Gagnon Laplante scored at 10:09 in the first period for 2-7-0 North Dakota. Brittany Kirkham made 16 saves on 19 shots.
Volleyball
Albany 3, Maine 1
At Albany, N.Y., Shelby Goldman had 15 kills and 10 digs to help power Albany to the win over Maine, 30-16, 27-30, 30-16, 30-27.
Ashley DeNeal had 14 kills and 11 digs for the 15-9 Great Danes, and Kamisha Kellam added 14 kills and three blocked shots.
Lindsay Allman totaled 11 kills and 11 digs for the 6-17 Black Bears. Shelly Seipp had 51 set assists and nine digs, and Laura Goettsch had 19 kills. Jessica Wolfenden had 14 kills, and Jody Connacher provided 14 digs.
