Madden leads EMCC past NMCC

PRESQUE ISLE – Josh Madden tossed in 31 points and Jesse Theriault recorded 14 points and 17 rebounds as the Eastern Maine Community College men’s basketball team rolled past Northern Maine CC 85-65 Tuesday night.

Joe Willett added 11 points and 10 rebounds and Mike Towle pulled down 14 rebounds to go along with five points, five assists and five blocks for the Golden Eagles.

Jason Woodworth paced NMCC with 22 points and Shawn Lay netted 21.

Vermont 82, New Orleans 65

At College Park, Md., Joe Tripani scored 20 points, and Vermont cruised past New Orleans 82-65 Tuesday night in the opening round of the 2K College Hoops Classic.

Vermont used an early 23-2 run to take control, led by 12 at halftime and never let the margin slip into single digits. The Catamounts (1-0) will next face the winner of the Hampton-Maryland game, held later Tuesday.

Tripani, a 6-foot-7 freshman forward, made all three of his 3-pointers and finished 6-for-9 from the floor in his college debut. Mike Trimboli added 11 points and 8 assists, and Kyle Cieplicki scored 10.
