The 41st NEWS Football Forecast has gone into overtime.

Six-time champion and assistant editor Pete Warner and outdoor writer John Holyoke have battled it out through 10 weeks and 200 games, only to emerge with identical 156-44 records. Each went 14-6 last week, when Jim Goodness took staff honors with a 17-3 record.

Josh Withee of Dover-Foxcroft became the fourth guest of the season to register an impressive 17-3 card.

Holyoke and Warner now move into the tiebreaker phase, during which they will pick five games. And there will be no tie this time around.

Bangor visits Lawrence in the Pine Tree Conference Class A championship, where Warner likes Bangor to avenge a 3-0 regular-season loss (14-13), while Holyoke takes Lawrence 13-7.

In PTC “B,” Warner again sides with visiting Winslow (22-21), with Holyoke taking Gardiner (21-13) to beat the Black Raiders a second time this fall. Both pick Foxcroft Academy to beat Mattanawcook Academy (Holyoke 28-13, Warner 21-12) in the LTC title contest.

In the college matchup, Holyoke prefers No. 3 Massachusetts to beat No. 19 Maine 21-18 in Amherst but Warner selects the Black Bears 17-14 in another upset. Both also take Gorham to beat Deering in the Western Maine “A” championship (Warner 21-16, Holyoke 30-14).

We’ll wrap up the full staff and guest results for you once the winner is determined.
