PRESQUE ISLE – Chris Banks scored 14 points to help lead Southern Maine Community College to a 100-55 men’s basketball win over Northern Maine Community College Thursday.
Trey Gadbois scored 12 points for SMCC of South Portland as Scott Slack and Elijah Madsen added 11 points apiece.
Josh Poisson paced NMCC with 20 points. Jason Woodworth scored 12 points and Jeremy Dickinson added 10.

At West Lafayette, Ind., Katie Gearlds scored 24 points and Sharon Versyp won her Purdue coaching debut as the 11th-ranked Boilermakers beat Belmont 67-43 Thursday night in the first round of the WNIT tournament.
Versyp, a former all-Big Ten player for the Boilermakers, coached at Indiana last season before returning to West Lafayette. She?s also a former UMaine coach.
Erin Lawless added 15 points and eight rebounds for Purdue in the regular-season opener for both teams.
