For nearly three decades, Zonta Club of Bangor has been holding one of the most popular holiday fairs around.

The 28th annual Zonta Market Place is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at Brewer Auditorium.

Member Denise Deshane reports more than 73 crafters, antiques dealers and vendors will be “offering you unique and handmade items” in what is always a busy, happy atmosphere.

Hot and cold lunches, desserts and homemade pies will be available, and you can purchase “Meals to Go” with Zontians offering prepackaged dinners including lasagna, chicken pie, chop suey and more.

Door prizes, a 50-50 raffle and a Portland shopping trip package are among the items you can win.

Admission is just $1, and proceeds benefit local Zonta Scholarships, Thanksgiving Baskets and area shelters.

The Veterans Day parade in the Bangor area begins at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Brewer Shopping Plaza on Wilson Street, crosses Chamberlain Bridge and goes down Bangor’s Main Street to the reviewing stand at Broad Street.

After a brief ceremony, it proceeds to Exchange Street and disbands.

Members of the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department invite you to enjoy their hunters breakfast 4-8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Prospect Community Center.

Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children under 12.

Proceeds from the meal of ham, eggs, home fries, beans, toast, juice, donuts and coffee benefit the PVFD.

Volunteer firefighter Linda Gamble wants readers to know this benefit is being held “a week earlier than we usually have our breakfast,” because the Prospect Community Club moved its annual breakfast to the first Saturday in November, “and we are moving into their usual date.”

Mireille Le Gal reports Women of the World will celebrate the Iberian Peninsula at noon Monday, Nov. 13, at Church of Universal Fellowship on Main Street in Orono with traditional dishes from Spain and Portugal.

This group of international women meets monthly to learn about new cultures and cuisine, and both international and American women are welcome.

Luncheon fees are $4 for women and children over 10, $2 for children 6-10, free for those under 6 attending with their mothers.

Some tickets remain for the American Red Cross Pine Tree Chapter’s Aroostook County Branch Real Heroes Breakfast at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle.

The event recognizes eight people who have demonstrated the spirit of the ARC mission by helping save lives.
