NORTH SCITUATE, R.I. – Donald Cabral of Glastonbury, Conn., and Georgia Griffin of Hanover, N.H., won individual titles Saturday at the 72nd New England Association High School Cross Country Championship at Ponagansett High School.

Cabral won the boys 5-kilometer run in 15 minutes, 29 seconds, while Griffin won the girls race in 18:31.

Tyler Clark of Lisbon was the top Maine finisher in the boys race, placing third overall in 15:37. The top Eastern Maine finisher was Sam Sheehan of Caribou, 12th overall in 16:10, while Corey DeWitt of Ellsworth placed 30th in 16:33.

Erica Jesseman of Cape Elizabeth was the top Maine finisher in the girls race and 17th overall in 19:14. Hilary Maxim of Old Town led Eastern Maine runners, placing 40th in 19:42. Molly Peverada of Hampden Academy was 52nd in 19:50.

Danbury, Conn., won the boys team title, edging Glastonbury, Conn. Both teams had 108 points, but Danbury won on a sixth-runner tiebreaker. Cape Elizabeth finished third with 181 points.

Hanover, N.H., won the girls team title with 80 points, followed by North Kingstown, R.I., with 124 points. Mount Desert Island was the top Maine team, placing 11th overall among 30 teams.
