Bengals claw Bears Reed leaves game with knee injury

MILWAUKEE – Senior guard David Schroeder scored 22 points and became Idaho State’s all-time 3-point shooting leader in a 66-57 victory over the University of Maine men’s basketball Tuesday in a consolation game of the CBE Classic.

Schroeder, who also had nine rebounds, shot 8-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-7 from 3-point range for the Bengals. Senior guard Akbar Abdul-Ahad added 10 points and seven assists for Idaho State (1-1).

It was as close as the Black Bears would get.

Maine senior guard Kevin Reed injured his right knee in a scramble with 12:47 to go in the first half. Reed, who sat out the 2005-06 season as a medical redshirt after suffering a stress fracture in his left foot in October 2005, fell and immediately grabbed his knee. After several minutes, he was helped off the court and sat at the end of the Maine bench where he received medical attention.

He did not return in the second half.

Socoby also had two steals, two assists and three rebounds. He was 8-for-10 from the floor, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, but the Bears went 20-for-57 (35.1 percent) overall. His 24 points was a season-high for the team.

The Black Bears managed to make just eight of 15 attempts (53.5 percent) from the free-throw line.

Philippe Tchekane Bofia and Christian Cavanaugh each grabbed six rebounds to lead the Black Bears. Idaho State had a 36-33 edge on the boards.

Junior Bernal added eight points, five rebounds and two steals.

Maine forced 13 turnovers while committing 10.

Schroeder now has 138 3-pointers, topping the career mark of 136 by Jeff Gardner from 2003-05.
